The most hopeful and plausible description of humanity's future I know of
The most significant book in my life. I first read this in 1982, when I mentioned to my martial arts coach, that I practiced Taiji after ingesting LSD. He handed me this book, and it changed my life. I was a hard core punk rocker, convinced the world was coming to an end. Leary's suggestion, that the maladies that are effecting the Earth, are mere growing pains. He proposes in this book, that we are going through a mutational phase, in the human development and that we are about to be born. This book, is his theory of evolution. One that starts with the first DNA templates that landed on Earth, from space, all the way to NASA and beyond. A joyous and hopeful vision of humanity's past, present and future as a space faring race. The over all theme, is summed up in his acronym, “SMI2LE” (Space Migration, Intelligence Increase and Life Extension”, I hold, very important to me.
